The Braggers: Agriculture Advocates & Conservation Award Winner
In 2011, Joe Bragger and his family were named the winner of the Wisconsin Leopold Conservation Award. Named in honor of renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold, this award recognizes individuals who demonstrate a long-standing commitment to conservation, provide leading example for others to follow, and work to help the general public understand the role we all play in conserving our natural resources. Life Cycle Assessment
In 2010, GNP Company conducted a life cycle assessment (LCA) to measure the environmental impact of our Just BARE chicken products across our value chain. The study revealed that a significant portion of the product's environmental impacts fall outside our direct operational control.
- 35% of our greenhouse gas emissions occur "upstream" and are related to growing corn and other feed ingredients.
- 37% come from our own operations, including the energy used in our facilities and materials in our packaging.
- 28% occur "downstream" and result from activites like distribution, retail, cooking and disposal.
While our initial focus has been on reducing environmental impacts that are within our control, moving forward we plan to engage our grain producers, growers, retailers and customer partners in creating postitive change across our entire supply chain.

World Resources Institute
GNP Company was one of more than 60 companies worldwide (and the only poultry company) to participate in a road test conducted by the World Resource Institute (WRI). The purpose of the test was to help establish worldwide standards to help measure corporations' carbon impact. Recently, two new Greenhouse Gas Protocols were launched using what was learned. These new standards will empower businesses to better measure, manage and report their emissions.

Working with United Kingdom-based Carbon Trust, we certified our commitment to lightening the footprint of our Just BARE® retail products as proven by the carbon reduction logo you'll find on every package of Just BARE chicken. Through the Just BARE® brand, GNP Company also supports renewable energy through our purchase of renewable energy certificates (also called REC's). Learn More
Water Treatment and Our Enviroment
GNP Company's Cold Spring, Minnesota waste water treatment facility uses state-of-the-art technology to capture and reuse water from processing. This technology also allows us to put water into the environment in a significantly cleaner state than it was found. Our treatment plant not only meets but exceeds both Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) standards. Learn More
